Several historical silver items have been stolen as thieves targeted a local church in The Green, Kings Norton, overnight on the 18th-19th March.
It’s believed the offenders smashed a stained glass window at St Nicolas Church before stealing the items.
The Victorian window, featuring Jesus and Nicodemus, was broken during a burglary in 2021 and has since been restored.
Over 25 pieces of church silverware were taken during the break in including chalices, plates, jugs and a unique piece called a verge created by renowned Birmingham silversmith Eric Clements. Some of the items taken are irreplaceable and others are of personal significance as they have been dedicated in people’s memory.
Speaking about the thefts, Churchwarden Peter Hay said: “We are saddened by the loss of so many precious pieces of our church history. We would urge anyone with any information to contact West Midlands Police”.
The church is encouraging people on social media to share images of the stolen items to make it more difficult for the items to be sold on. They are also encouraging other churches to check their security arrangements as these type of crimes appear to be on the increase.
