Locals are invited to have memorial stars for lost loved ones added to popular Tree of Light ahead of a virtual memorial service, available to watch online from Sunday 3rd December.
Mortons Funeral Directors is once again hosting its annual Tree of Light memorial service. This heartfelt event invites everybody to honour and celebrate the lives of lost loved ones through a virtual memorial service.
In a touching tradition, all members of the community are encouraged to write personal messages on virtual memorial stars through Mortons’ website for those they have lost. The invitation is not limited to those Mortons have made funeral arrangements for in the past, and each memorial message is meticulously handwritten by the team at Mortons and placed on their giant Christmas Tree at their Northfield office. Last year saw an overwhelming response, with over 1,500 memorial stars submitted through the Mortons Tree of Light website.
In keeping with tradition, the first memorial stars were placed by a family the local funeral director served. This year, Mortons welcomed the family of the late Joseph Willmott. Their stars are in memory of a cherished son, brother, uncle and friend who sadly passed away earlier this year aged just 31.
Sarah Case, the managing director of Mortons Funeral Directors, said: “Christmas is a difficult time for those who’ve experienced loss, no matter how much time has passed.
“Our annual Tree of Light Memorial service is open to everybody who wants to pay tribute to the loved ones they have lost. Our invitation is not limited to those we have served or made funeral arrangements for in the past. It’s a chance for us all to join together in a shared act of remembrance.”
Over the last 15 years, the Tree of Light Memorial Service has raised over £15,000 for charity. Although there is no charge for placing a star, Mortons provides a link to their chosen charity, Macmillan Nurses, and will be making a donation to The Salvation Army – Droitwich Corps as a small token of gratitude for being part of the Tree of Light Memorial Service.
