The Fairway Primary Academy has had to temporarily close due to the possibility of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) at the school.
The school in Kings Norton has switched to online learning whilst investigations continue.
In a letter to parents/gaurdians yesterday (6th September), headteacher Darren Man said they had not been able to establish if RAAC was present.
In a further letter sent today (7th September), headteacher Darren Man said: I’m writing to give you an update on RAAC at Fairway.
Following our initial survey, we have been consulting with the government surveyors to secure an Invasive survey throughout all buildings to identify if any RAAC is present.
We have had some further clarification from the surveyors of un-affected areas and we are building this information into our plans for education provision.
I would like to reassure all parents that every member of staff is working quickly to address the current situation and get all children back into formal learning as soon as possible. This morning, as you will understand, staff have had very limited access to the school building to identify and collect resources for remote learning.
Our intention is to limit remote learning as far as possible and offer face-to-face learning for all children as quickly as possible. We are currently working with our Partnership and other agencies to secure an alternative venue for lessons to resume. We are intending to finalise these arrangements as a priority today.
This Is a quickly-moving situation and I understand that this is challenging for parents and children. I will contact all parents as soon as possible with further updates.
