West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to an incident at a river in Kings Norton, at 7.21am this morning (17th August).
An ambulance and paramedic officer arrived at the scene at the River Rae, off Popes Lane, to find one patient, a man, in the water.
He was brought to safety with assistance from the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and crews from West Midlands Fire Services before being treated by ambulance staff and conveyed to University Hospital Birmingham for further treatment.
An eyewitness said that the man was in a wheelchair and couldn’t get out of the water.
A police spokesperson said: A man was found in the canal [River Rae] after having fallen in some hours before and couldn’t get out. He [was] rescued and taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia.”
