Students, staff and friends of Victoria School in Northfield, walked and rolled an impressive 10 miles between local libraries on Saturday (10th June) to help raise much needed funds to revamp the school’s library.
The group set off nice and early from Victoria School at 8:15am – then headed to libraries in Weoley Castle, Quinton, the Touchbase Pears Centre in Selly Oak, Stirchley and Northfield before returning back to the school.
It was a fabulous day, meeting students and families at everyone of the 5 libraries we visited. We had an amazing reception when we got back to school where we entertained by Rubery’s own Spoz and author, Lisa Murray- Lang.”
Victoria School is a special needs school – students have a wide range of cognitive and physical disabilities, many using a wheelchair for mobility.
Vice-chair of governors Charlotte Bull – whose fabulous boys, Alex and Dylan (12) also attend the school – said: “It was a fabulous day, meeting students and families at every one of the five libraries we visited. We had an amazing reception when we got back to school where we were entertained by Rubery’s own Spoz and author, Lisa Murray- Lang.”
Local legend, writer and former Birmingham Poet Laureate, Spoz, said: “I rocked up at the school once all the hard work/walk had been done … typical of me really! 🤣🤣🤣
“I popped along to give them all a poem and a song or two, as a “well done”. Considering the energetic day they’d had, everyone was still in great voice, joining in with the poems and songs!”
