A man’s pet spider has gone missing as he was transporting it to his home in Longbridge.
Local resident, Nigel, who is a spider lover and enthusiast, was taking his Goliath birdeating spider home after purchasing from Colin in the Rag Market.
Nigel told B31 Voices: “I’m gutted, Steve was in his tank wearing his sombrero hat and leg warmers as I got off the train in Longbridge but when I got home, the tank was as empty as Birmingham City Council’s bank balance”.
The Goliath birdeater is the largest species of spider in both mass and size – native to the upland rainforest areas of northern South America, such as Suriname, Guyana, French Guinea, and parts of Brazil and Venezuela.
Goliath birdeater tarantula venom is still considered mild and not exactly medically significant, though the bite is painful enough to cause most people to be leery about handling these tarantulas.
If you see Steve, please get in touch.
HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!!!!
