A huge sculpture named ‘Alex’, which is created to ‘highlight homelessness has arrived in Brum.
Homeless charity, Crisis, have collaborated with talented artist Sophie de Oliveira Barata to create a giant, life-like human sculpture, representing multiple, real people who have lived experience of homelessness.
Sophie said: “Some behind scenes shots of this amazing project. 6 weeks in a wooden hut, by myself making and reflecting. Loved every minute.”

About ‘Alex’ the sculpture, a spokesperson for Crisis said it had:”been designed to stop people in their tracks and force them to confront the issue now staring them in the face.”
“Homelessness can be overwhelming. It’s uncomfortable to confront. Sometimes the more we see it, the more we want to look away. But ignoring homelessness won’t help us to end it.”
The Sculpture is situated by St Martin’s Church at the Bullring and will be there on the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th of December.
