It was an eventful Boxing Day for one big, beautiful, elderly horse stabled in Kings Norton.
Thirty-six-year old Bruno, had fallen in his stable sometime during the early hours.
The gentle giant (15.3 hands) was found at 9:30am – the poor fella was absolutely exhausted from trying to get himself up on to all fours.
Bruno’s loving owner acted quickly and contacted the Corner House Equine Clinic (CHEC) and the Fire Service.
Crews from Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (Bromsgrove and Pershore), attended to assist in lifting Bruno to his feet.
Due to the limited space, he had to be dragged out of the stable. His owner “sat with him on the floor till they were ready to lift him up”.
Despite it taking hours, the hard work and determination to get this much loved family member vertical, paid off and he was soon back to munching his favourite treats.
Bruno’s owner said: “I’d just like to thank Kate (Vet) from Corner House Equine Clinic and Fire crews for the care they gave Bruno. They were not going to give up on him and neither was I.
I’m so grateful to people on the yard who rallied round to help, they all love Bruno”
Since his ordeal, Bruno is managing to keep upright and pester his owner if his dinner isn’t ready quick enough!

That is wonderful news, and just the sort of pick-me-up we need after so many months of bad news.
Hope Bruno makes a full recovery, and well done to the rescue services and vet, for getting him back on his feet, literally!
