Some popular brands of dry cat food have been recalled as Royal Veterinary College investigates spike in cases of deadly feline disease.
Fold Hill Foods are voluntarily recalling some of the dry cat food products they manufacture — including selected ranges from AVA (Pets At Home), Applaws & Sainsbury’s as a precautionary measure. The pet food manufacturer are supporting an investigation by the food and veterinary authorities into a possible safety issue affecting cats.
The RVC is investigating after being made aware of around 50 recent cases of severe feline pancytopaenia – a very rare but often fatal blood disorder.

For Applaws products only any packs with a Best Before Date of Dec 2022 to Best Before Date of June 2023 and a site reference code of GB218E5009 are affected. (Click here for list of products affected)
For AVA it is all batches and best before dates (click here for list of products affected).
For Sainsburys’ products it is all batches and best before dates (click here for list of products affected).

What you should do:
If you have bought any of the above products as detailed above, do not feed them to your cat.
Instead:
• Check if you have bought the affected products and batch code(s) / «use-by / best before» date(s)
You can do this by taking a picture of this notice or writing down the batch code(s) / «use-by / best before» date(s) for reference at home.
• Return the product(s) to the store for a full refund (with or without a receipt).
