UPDATE: 2nd March 2021 – management at Buzz Bingo Great Park announce “WE ARE STAYING PUT”! Read more

Plans have been submitted to Birmingham City Council for permission to change the use of a bingo hall in Rubery to a gymnasium.

Buzz Bingo situated on Park Way, Great Park could soon be occupied by the popular Revolution Gymnastics Club who are currently based in Selly Oak.

Proposal

Change of use of the existing building from Buzz Bingo (Sui Generis) to a gymnasium (Use Class E) to allow the unit to be occupied by Revolution Gymnastics Club.

Revolution Gymnastics Club

Founded in 2007 by Rob Owen with 11 members and 2 volunteers. Since this time, Revolution Gymnastics Club has grown in popularity to approximately 1,300 permanent members.

The club is now in a position where it needs a new facility to continue to develop its business as well as providing improved facilities and training for the club’s members.

They supports a full range of gymnasts from beginners to those keeping fit to those who are aiming for national and international competitions.

They’re also the current training venue for national squads and are used for several national training camps, as well as international.

And the home for the Welsh tumbling national squad as well as the West Midlands and the Great Britain tumbling training squads.

  1. I think this should happen a gym getting people motivated instead of sat at a table playing bingo what they can do at home the gym sounds amazing also getting kids off the streets

  2. I think this would be really beneficial to the in bringing like minded individuals such as children, adults and those with additional needs together under one roof to interact with each other and to serve the local community in providing a much needed all inclusive service for all to bene from.

  3. Amazing opportunity for the gymnastics community and Rubery!! With the commonwealth games coming to Birmingham next year and the tumbling championships the following year several of the club’s athletes should be participating from this club!!

  4. As someone who works there I would like it to say as a bingo hall otherwise I’d be out of a job. Not only that majority of our customers who come and play are on their own and the only interaction they get is when they come not only to play but to have other people to talk to and socialise with.

    • I agree, also taking into account they already have a major health/gym centre yards away from this location (Nuffield Health)
Iam surprised Great park is up for tender! Just another victim of covid I suppose…
      Hello Adam!

  5. We already have the bowling alley for kids opposite BuzzBingo.
I think you should keep it as a bingo Hall as its alot of people’s only chance to meet up with others.
It in itself is a little community that the area would be lost without. Plus it would make alot of people jobless if you were to close it down.

  6. I think this is a fabulous idea and something that this side of city is in need of and would definitely benefit the club and the children and parents that attend.

  7. Definitely agree with sue Bingo is for the older generation not much else for them to do 😘 also there are enough gyms about 😢

  8. I Love the thought of children doing gymnastics but to take away a venue that caters for lots of different age groups especially the elderly who
Probably need this more than anyone is not beneficial. Bingo is probably the highlight of peoples week so to take it away would be sad for them .

  9. This should be left as a bingo hall. The older generation need somewhere they can go to socialise, for some this is the only interaction they have with other people and gives them something to look forward to. Revolution is already an established gymnastics club with a great site. People supporting this because it brings a gymnastics club to Rubery should be aware that there is a very long waiting list and if it’s something you really want your children to do, the current site is not far away. People of all ages can enjoy both activities if it stays as it is.

  10. Needs to stay as a bingo hall! This is aimed at our older generation and important for their mental health ! There is already a gym ( Greens) and cinema and Hollywood bowl for families ! Don’t discriminate against the older generation who enjoy bingo for their social interaction with others ! It’s been a horrid year , don’t take one of their few pleasures away from them!

    • Loads of bingo halls have been shut down
      since covid 19.
Also it’s local for people on this side of birmingham .
People just think we sit down at bingo and play .
No it’s not like that at all
there a real community in there
with good people who attend every night.
Young to old go there too .

The manager is brill anthony also the staff and it be ashame for this bingo to close.

      People be without a job
And even though a gymnastics club would be good that can go anywhere to be honest

Not everyone can travel to the nearest bingo club (castle bingo or meeca in acocks green if u live on this side) and the furthest would be erdington.

Imagine if the gymnastics club was opening somewhere else you would still have to travel . And yeah some people will say well travel for bingo . It’s not like that at all especially for the older generation believe me don’t take the bingo away from us .

  11. We already have 3 or 4 gym’s in the area so why do we need another?
Older people also need somewhere to go for a few hours out of their normal living space.

    • I think this would be great for kids and adults to be active doing a fun sport, there aren’t any good gymnastics venues in this area and it would probably get a lot more use than a bingo hall in the current situation and continuing into the future.

  12. Leave it has a bingo , too many bingos have been closed for gods sake leave somewhere for the older generation to go too , bingo is not just bingo it’s a community place for all to meet and relax , nice to have gyms but there’s already enough for people to join at this rate we will have nowhere to go and play bingo

  13. Surely theres loads of other buildings that are not being used that they could use?
Why pick a building that is in use?
That building is the only bingo hall I go to from time to time and easy walking distance just like it is for a lot of people and a lot of regulars that love going there too…

  14. I presume the bingo co. is in trouble because of Covid and so we’re talking about using that site for gymnastics or nothing at all – at least for now. Pls tell me if I’m wrong. Sadly, I think even after Covid, bingo halls will be much less popular. Covid’s had a bad impact. I can’t see bingo halls having a bright future. However, it would be nice if the gym hall could be multi-purpose, for other community events, inc. bingo.

  15. Stay at buzz bingo it’s a great industry and I don’t want to see any of my fellow team losing their jobs through this difficult period of history

  16. For 1 I’d like it staying as Buzz Great Park not only have I enjoyed coming here as a customer but I also love it when the companies done jamborees here and it gives the customers some enjoyment and momentum. So please please please keep it as bingo and not as a gym.

  17. It was a place my son got me going to as I was so sad when losing my husband and it got some great friends and the staff were brilliant love the chats please keep it going

  18. Why not build it in longbridge as there are so many empty building there and keep bingo for the OAPS and some young people like me

  19. Reading the comments on here, it seems, quite a few people are getting their gyms mixed up. This proposal is not for a fitness gym, it’s for a gymnastics gym.

I can understand how losing a bingo club will be disappointing, for some, but surely, the fact that this change of use is being applied for, is an indication that the bingo club is already set to close. Companies can’t apply for a change of use, unless a building is no longer in use, or is about close.

Given the above, I would welcome a gymnasium of the type proposed in the area. The kudos, of having a regional, national, or even, an international medal winner, being trained at such a gym, can only improve the area’s image/reputation.

Bingo clubs are far more common than places where gymnasts can train… Imo.

    • We would love a gymnastics gym in the area. Would be fantastic for the kids and adults too!!!
Having something if this stature in the area will definitely add value and bring new life post Covid and something to look forward to!

    • Finally, a sensible comment! I wish people would be realistic and also read the whole word not just the first 3 letters, its not a gym people, its a gymnastics club!

  20. The real shame is that yet another local community venue in Selly Oak for children has to go to make way for yet more student housing. Selly Oak for families and communities is being eroded. Surely our local MP should do something about this.

  21. Amazing opportunity for the gymnastics community! members from this club have represented team GB in past events and who knows what the future holds for a lot of these young people they represent our country and we should be proud to give them the facilities they need to exceed in what they love

  22. This gymnastics club has elite and GB gymnast in the club, they need somewhere to train to represent Great Britain. This club has come so far already!

  23. Yes to the gym club, ideal area with good parking. It has squads and various other clubs use the facilities, along with recreational classes for all ages.
Will bring people to the area if they host competitions too.

  24. This is an amazing opportunity for revolution gymnastics club to expand what they are able to offer for all ages/ abilities/ needs. Definitely agree to let this go ahead!!

  25. This would be really fantastic for our community, encouraging kids and young people to be fit, push ourselves and have a positive focus in life. There’s also the chance of competing in competitions worldwide. We should all support this for the benefit to our community 👍🏼

  26. What a fantastic opportunity for kids, adults and the local community. Larger space for social distancing too! Whole of the building would be in full use. Definitely think this should be going ahead supporting health and fitness moving forward.

  27. Fantastic opportunity for Kids, Adults and the local community. Larger building for social distancing too which is what is needed moving forward. Use of the whole building supporting health and fitness for all generations.

  28. This is a great idea and would be an asset to the great park area, encouraging children to exercise and have something positive to focus on is exactly what we need right now. With so many members of the gymnastics club it will drive business towards all the other businesses on great park e.g. Cinema, eateries, supermarket.

  29. This is a really positive development for the area. Lots of parents will drop their kids for training and then do their shopping, get a coffee etc. Local businesses will definitely benefit. This gym has trained national and world champions and it will be an excellent opportunity for kids in the area to get involved in gymnastics, tumbling and trampolining. I’m sure the bingo hall was great, but this will enhance the community in as different way.

  30. This would be a great opportunity for the younger children of our generation and will look great and something new to that area I would love love love to see it become a gym ! We should all support this for the benefit of our community ❤️

  31. This will be a wonderful thing for our local children. Gymnastics has so many benefits physically and mentally. It teaches them commitment perseverance teamwork and other skills that will come in useful in adulthood and working lives. Along with all the benefits of exercise and an active lifestyle. We should be invested in their future. As a mom I think this would be a fantastic thing to happen locally.
