A newly extended bus service is set to provide better links between south west Birmingham and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Operator Kev’s Cars and Coaches – which runs the 19 and 39 buses – is to extend its number 42 service, which currently runs between West Heath and Hollymoor in Northfield, calling at Morrisons Great Park.
The route will run 6 days a week, servicing Longbridge, Rubery, Morrisons, Northfield, Bournville, Cotteridge, Selly Oak and the Queen Elizabeth complex including University Station, The Heritage Building, The Women’s Hospital, A&E and terminates at the hospital main entrance.
A new once-a-day 42H service will also run from Rubery to the QE in the morning, returning in the afternoon.
The new services will commence on Monday 15th February.

Commencing Monday 15 February there will be exciting new changes to the 38 and 42 bus services.
The two services will be combined to create a new
42 from West Heath to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital
via Longbridge, Great Park, Northfield, Cotteridge, Morrisons Stirchley, Selly Oak, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Complex including University Station, the Heritage Building, the Women’s Hospital, Accident and Emergency and the Hospital Main Entrance.
The line of route of both 38 and 42 will be mainly unchanged other than.
- Alvechurch Road will be served both ways
- Hollymoor Way will be served both ways
- The new service will serve Northfield via Frankley Beeches Road
- The service will no longer serve Dawlish, Exeter or Heeley Roads
- The new service will serve more of Raddlebarn Road to Oak Tree Lane connecting with the Outer Circle bus route
- Around the hospital complex the service will be hail and ride so passengers can board and alight at will if it is safe to do so.
