A teenage boy has been arrested and two people remain in hospital with serious injuries this evening after a collision involving a suspected stolen car in Stirchley this morning (Monday 28th September).
The crash happened at the junction of Pershore Road and St Stephen’s Road at around 5.25am when a suspected stolen Audi was being pursued by police.
Bricks thrown at police
Objects – including bricks – were thrown at police vehicles during the pursuit before the Audi failed to give way at the junction on Pershore Road and collided with a van before crashing into a nail salon.
Serious injuries
The 48 year old van driver is described as being in a serious condition in hospital, having suffered head and neck injuries.
A passenger in the Audi – a 17 year old boy – suffered spinal injuries and is also in a serious condition.
15 year old driver arrested
The driver of the Audi – aged just 15 – managed to get out of the car and made off from the scene. He was arrested after a short footchase and remains in police custody after being treated in hospital for minor injuries.
West Midlands Police said that a third youth had fled the scene and investigations continue.
Pershore Road remained closed between Cartland Road and Selly Park Road until this afternoon.
