West Midlands Police have renewed their appeal for information into a hit and run collision after the victim sadly passed away in hospital this morning (Thursday 9th April).
Local man Robert Field, 66, was crossing Hoggs Lane when he was struck by a dark blue car, near the junction of Cheverton Road, at 7pm on Saturday 22th February.
The driver failed to stop and drove off towards Frankley Beeches Road, leaving Mr Field with serious injuries including multiple fractures, a bleed on the brain and a devastating leg injury.
An earlier heartfelt appeal from Mr Field’s family urged witnesses to come forward with information.
However, investigating officers are yet to identify the driver and have made a fresh appeal this afternoon.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the serious collision investigation unit, said: “We were devastated to hear about the death of Mr Field and it has strengthened our resolve to trace the driver involved.
“The car lost a wing mirror in the collision so they will have known what happened, yet still decided to drive on.
“Now is the time for the driver to do the right thing, come forward and tell us exactly what happened.”
The family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this sad time.
