A local family have been left devastated after callous thieves stole a memorial bench from a Kings Norton graveyard.

The precious bench was stolen from the grounds of the historic St Nicolas’ Church, in The Green, sometime between 9.30am on Sunday 19 April and 10am on Sunday 26 April.

The heavy wooden seat had a brass dedication plaque which read “In loving memory of Frank William Nesbitt’. It was secured beside his grave for visiting family members – including his 82 year old widow – to use.

A family member said: “I just can’t believe people can be so cruel. How am I supposed to tell my mom. If you are reading this I hope you realise that when my elderly mother visits her husband’s grave she will now have to stand. I don’t have the words for people like you.”

The family are trying to replace the bench before Mr Nesbitt’s birthday on the 4th of May.
