West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses after the body of a man was sadly found in a Kings Norton canal this morning (Saturday 15th February).
Emergency services were alerted at around 8.40am after a member of the public reported seeing what they believed to be a body in the Worcester & Birmingham Canal, close to Masshouse Lane.
All services attended and a spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed that the body of a man was recovered from the water a short time later.
INFORMATION APPEAL:
Although the man has yet to be formally identified, it is believed he was in his 40s and lived locally.
The cause of death is unclear at this stage and a post mortem examination will take place tomorrow morning (Sunday 16th February).
The man was wearing a blue coat and a rucksack across his chest when he was recovered.
Officers are asking anyone who saw a man matching the description in the area between 7.30pm last night and 8.40am this morning to get in touch.
Detective Chief Inspector Scott Griffiths said: “We believe the man would have accessed the canal towpath via either Masshouse Lane or Shannon Road − and that he would have entered the water in that area.
“If anyone believes they saw the man I’d urge them to get in touch.”
