Growing Together – The Big Dig on Saturday

Northfield Ecocentre will be holding an open day at Masefield Community Garden and Allotments on Saturday 16^th March, 12noon to 4pm. This is part of The Big Dig, a nationwide project encouraging people to get involved with community food growing, including many others in Birmingham.

There will be a tour of the site showing work already complete and plans for the site including an outdoor classroom, earth oven, nature area and of course lots of food growing plots. At the end of the day everyone is invited to try out the newly built BBQ on site.

Jackie Green, Project Coordinator explained; “This is an opportunity for anyone to come and see the site, meet us and find out more about the project. We have lots of big plans including allotment plots, a wildlife area, an outdoor classroom, and earth oven. We will be running workshops covering the basics of food growing, forest gardening, composting and loads more. We’ll have events throughout the year. We’re already planning a summer picnic!”

“If you are interested in food growing or just want to see the site, come along on Saturday. We’re a friendly bunch and you don’t have to lift a spade if you don’t want to. There are loads of ways to get involved.
