B31 Voices wins (un)award!

Yesterday saw the fourth annual Talk About Local Unconference and B31 Voices was (un)awarded the covetous title of Best Overall Hyperlocal Site

Local government employees, community bloggers, activists and reporters from around the UK and Ireland attended the event which was jointly hosted by Talk About Local and N0tice, an online community noticeboard established by the Guardian Media Group.

The event is run as an unconference, allowing attendees to collaborate and set the agenda for the day.

Congrats to @B31Voices for their best new comer un-awards #TA... on Twitpic

As is traditional, the day ended with the glittering presentation of the TAL12 Unawards for the best in hyperlocal blogging. Awards included Best Newcomer, Lifetime Achievement, Best Community Engagement, Teambuilding, Best Photography, Best Rebrand and Best Overall Site and prizes were handpicked from the upmarket shelves of Latifs in Digbeth.

We were unable to make the unconference and unaware that we were to be unawarded the prize for Best Overall Site! We did, however, being geeks, happen to be watching the live stream of the event and saw the awards ‘ceremony’ live!

Talk About Local founder Will Perrin said: “There’s got to be a best overall site … it’s very hard to choose. But we thought, there’s an absolutely superb site, not a million miles from here, run by Sas and Marty out of B31. An absolutely tremendous site.”

We’re very humbled to have un-won this un-award – there are some great hyperlocal sites out there! Thank you! Congratulations to all the other winners who included the brilliant: Lightmoor Life, WV11, Stratford Road Project, Digbeth is Good, Drimnagh is Good, A Little Bit of Stone, Saddleworth News, Lichfield Live, HU12 and more!

We’d like to thank everyone who has supported B31 Voices and all who contribute to, read and engage with the site. :)

Oh and thanks, John Popham (the master of Bambuser!), for livestreaming the event!

Now, who’s got our prize, we can’t wait to get our hands on it…..!!

Sas & Marty xx
