Locals are invited to have memorial stars for lost loved ones added to popular Tree of Light ahead of a virtual memorial service this Sunday (4th December).
The annual event allows the local community to honour and celebrate the lives of loved ones lost through a remembrance service and a chance to place a memorial star on Morton’s Tree of Light.
Mortons welcome members of the community to write a message on a virtual memorial star through their website for those they have lost. Each star is then handwritten and placed on the Tree of Light. Last year, over 1,200 memorial stars were submitted through the Mortons Tree of Light website.
In keeping with tradition, the first memorial stars were placed by a family the local funeral director served. This year, Mortons welcomed the family of the late Martyn Oakes. Their stars are in memory of a cherished Husband, Dad and Grandad who sadly passed away earlier this year aged just 60.
Sarah Case, the managing director of Mortons Funeral Directors, said: “Christmas is a difficult time for those who’ve experienced loss, no matter how much time has passed. Our annual Tree of Light Memorial service allows families to come together and pay tribute to the loved ones they have lost. It’s a chance for us all to join together as we share in each other’s grief and comfort one another.”Over the last 14 years, the Tree of Light Memorial Service has raised over £14,000 for charity. Although there is no charge for placing a star, Mortons will be making a donation to their chosen charity, Birmingham St. Mary’s Hospice, and to The Salvation Army – Droitwich Corps as a small token of gratitude for being part of the Tree of Light Memorial Service.
