We Just Read: Council leader Ian Ward has been selected to carry on in charge for four more years after a fierce internal election battle in Birmingham Labour.
He now resumes his role as leader of Birmingham City Council after a dramatic challenge, which saw him win 33-31 in a highly-contested second vote. He saw off an audacious bid for his job by his cabinet colleague Waseem Zaffar.
The result casts doubt over the future of Zaffar, who had already told Ward he would not serve in his new Cabinet. He now returns to the backbenches as councillor for Lozells, his ambitions crushed for now.
