A Birmingham hospital charity has launched its annual Christmas Appeal, after one of the toughest years ever experienced by the NHS.
The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Charity supports NHS patients, their families and carers at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (ROH) in Northfield.
The main ongoing objectives of the charity are to support the Trust by:
· Improving patient, visitor and staff experience of the hospital surroundings through major development projects
· Funding additional equipment to enhance the level of care the hospital can give their patients
· Supporting medical and health research in orthopaedics
· Encouraging specialist teaching and learning to further clinical knowledge and promote innovation.
The Christmas Appeal raises money to support wellbeing initiatives for both patients and staff over the festive season. This includes giving gifts to patients staying in hospital over the holidays and those being visited by the hospital’s community outreach team between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, as well as gifts to staff to recognise their incredible work throughout the year.
Additional funds raised will go towards festive celebrations throughout the hospital as well as implementing a new patient entertainment system across inpatient areas in the hospital, planned for 2022.
Charity Manager Ali Gray said: “The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Charity relies on the generosity of local businesses and community fundraisers to assist with our fundraising efforts. Donations help us support ROH to provide a high-level of care and support for our patients, visitors, medical students and staff.
“Christmas can be a difficult time of year to be in hospital and during the Christmas season, dedicated staff at the hospital will continue to work hard to spread love, cheer and provide outstanding services to those who visit for life-changing treatment. With the kindness of our fundraisers, we can help make their Christmas special.”
Ways to get involved:
The hospital will be holding a Festive Dress Day (where staff can wear a festive item of clothing and in return donate £1 towards the appeal) and a Christmas raffle where prizes up for grabs include afternoon tea at The Ritz and a spa day for two at Malvern Spa, all donated by the community. The raffle will be drawn on Wednesday 8 December and all funds raised will support patients unable to return home and staff working tirelessly over the festive season. They are also selling Christmas cards, with packs of 10 available to purchase for £3.99 – you can purchase these at www.rohcharity.org/shop.

And on Tuesday 7 December, they will be holding a Christmas Market outside the hospitals
Outpatients Department between 10:00 – 15:00. The market will include:
· Performances from the ROH Staff Choir at 11:00 and 14:00
· Amazing food to eat on-site or to take away
· Gifts perfect for the festive season.
