Working as a Section Manager at M&S
Our Section Managers don’t shy away from responsibility. Not only are they responsible for an annual turnover that can run into millions of pounds, they also lead, coach and inspire their team to keep meeting our customers’ high expectations.
Our Section Managers work in two areas, Clothing & Home or Food.
Clothing & Home Section Manager
We’ve filled our stores with the affordable luxury, must-have products our customers love. Your task will be to create a fantastic shopping experience that complements our ranges and helps to build profits.
Hitting sales targets will obviously be key. But it’s about more than just the numbers. Knowing our ranges inside out and setting the highest possible standards in service, you’ll be an exceptional leader to your team and an inspiration to your customers.
Food Section Manager
Our customers don’t just come for our innovative food ranges; our high standards of service and quality count for a lot too. As our Food Section Manager, you’ll oversee everything from creating the best possible shopping experience and ensuring hygiene and safety standards are met, to inspiring your team and hitting sales targets.
It’s about making the most of your commercial awareness and applying it with a high street food retailer that’s renowned for providing nothing but the best.
An M&S Section Manager needs to be creative, commercially aware and an inspiring leader. So you will need to have the following:
People skills – adapting your style for both customers and internal colleagues.
Leadership skills – you’ll need to take your team with you, leading the way through change when needed.
Communication skills – make sure that your team understands why they are being asked to do what they need to do.
Organisational skills – stay focused and effective at all times, particularly in our Food stores where you need to be on top of product expiry and delivery dates.
