Responsible for: Team Leaders, Early Years Practitioners and Early Years Assistants and Apprentices.
Role Purpose: To manage and develop the services of the nursery unit with a focus on creating and maintaining a quality environment and experience for the children, families and the staff team. To manage teams, this may contain individuals with a range of roles, levels and responsibility.
To work towards a budget
Prepare monthly payroll.
Prepare and oversee weekly staffing rotas.
Plan and agree all annual leave to be taken by the staff team.
Recruitment and selection of all staff.
Ensure all staff have an enhanced DBS check and reference checks completed.
Liaise with Team Leaders to support staff members who are training towards Early Years qualifications.
Responsible for OFSTED self evaluations and implementing any follow up actions required.
To carry out monthly/bi-monthly supervisions with the Team Leaders.
Monitor attendance through daily register, return to work interviews and by using the trigger points system.
Liaise with Redwings regarding HR issues and responsible for dealing with any necessary HR related matters.
Plan and organise regular full staff meetings and senior meetings.
Ensure nursery is compliant with all health and safety and EYFS Welfare Requirements.
Designated Safeguarding coordinator.
Ensure monthly fees are received from all families.
To liaise and network with external agencies to raise nursery profile and keep up to date with current legislation.
The post holder will be expected to:
Understand the boundaries of confidentiality and practice professionally within them at all times. Challenge others whose practice does not comply with organisational and legal requirements.
Represent My First Friends at external meetings, conferences and training events.
Ensure a thorough understanding of own role and areas of responsibility.
Take responsibility for developing and sharing own knowledge, skills and expertise thorough participation in team meetings, learning and development opportunities, performance reviews and through reflective practice.
Consistently ensure that each member of the staff team, the children and their families are valued and own practice is non judgemental.
Monitor the turn over of staff, noting trends or issues that affect the stability of the teams and individuals. Actively work towards reducing turn over and increasing length of service of the team members.
Plan, monitor and evaluate own work, making effective use of the time and resources allocated.
Ensure own and team’s current knowledge and understanding of My First Friends Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Support staff training in the evacuation and accident reporting procedures, and with security procedures.
Make continuous improvements to the services provided.
Maintain the highest standard of Early Years Foundation Stage delivery, standards of care, hygiene and stimulation to all children attending the nursery.
Maintain appropriate records relating to the work of the unit, in line with organisational procedures and legal requirements.
Control and monitor the expenditure against budgets as agreed.
Manage own time by prioritising objectives and appropriately delegating tasks and responsibilities to others where appropriate.
Demonstrate effective communication skills (oral and written at all times) ensuring essential information is shared promptly and accurately.
Remain current with new legislation and childcare initiatives.
Promote the organisation positively at all times, ensuring that all representation seeks to affirm the values, beliefs and ethos of My First Friends Day Nursery.
Interact with all customers and visitors professionally, responding to requests for information and services promptly.
Investigate and follow up customer complaints and attempt to resolve difficulties wherever possible in an agreed time scale.
Use systems and organisational procedures for the effective operation and administration of customer and supplier transactions.
Oversee the record keeping in line with current systems ensuring that records and planning documents are accurate, legible and completed promptly and shared appropriately with parents and carers.
Implement outstanding customer service at all times, ensuring all staff perform to a high standard.
Ensure probationary reviews, Supervisions and performance appraisals are carried out for all staff.
Identify poor performance and bring it to the attention of the individual.
Follow organisational procedures and legal requirements in the event of sub standard work or gross misconduct
Demonstrate flexibility to support other managers and to ensure the effective smooth running of the unit.
