    Initial temporary period to cover maternity leave with potential for a permanent position afterwards.

    We are looking for a competent animal care assistant to work within a small growing team to provide outstanding care to a variety of animals. If you’re a compassionate, positive person who is willing work outdoors regardless of the weather, then this is a job for you. We expect you to be caring and trustworthy when carrying out day to day responsibilities. It is important to be patient; it can take a while to build up a good client base. A positive reputation is often spread by word of mouth, following the delivery of a reliable service over time. You are accountable for the safety of your client’s pet, and looking after another person’s pet carries a high level of responsibility. You must maintain focus and be alert for any potential problems, avoiding any harm or injury to the pet. Organisation is key; you must be practical and well prepared in order to succeed. Experience or qualifications in animal care is optional, full training will be given.

    Responsibilities:

    -Traveling to a variety of locations within the south Birmingham area

    -Being responsible for multiple house keys

    -Ensuring clients animals are walked or attended to on time

    -Communicating with clients in a polite manor

    -Disposing of waste appropriately and safely

    -Handling animals in all environments

    -Providing water and food for those that need it

    -Providing emergency first aid if required (Full training given)

    -Relaying information on each visit to management

    Requirements:

    -Experience or qualification with animals is preferred but not essential

    -Access to transport

    -General knowledge of the local area

    -This is both a very flexible and physically demanding job. Being physically fit is a must as the job involves long walks outside in all weather conditions.

    -Hours may vary so flexibility is desirable, however you may find that you develop a regular client base and popular services.

    -Positive and compassionate attitude

    Due to the physical demand needed by this position, the ideal candidate must be prepared to work in all weathers, cope with long distance walks and be able to manage strong dogs. Access to your own transport is also necessary due to the location of some clients, however expenses will be covered.
