About the Bakery Customer Assistant role
With a selection of breads, pastries, cookies and cakes as delicious as ours, it’s no wonder M&S bakeries are always a popular part of our stores.
We’ve brought the theatre of the bake to the centre stage in our bakeries. As they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Today, we have over 450 bakeries, so joining one of our small bakery teams is a great way to keep standards high, and customers coming back for more.
Preparing and presenting so many delectable delights is a tempting treat of the job. It’s your chance to bring your love of baking to one of the high street’s best-loved names, enticing customers with irresistible aromas and spectacular displays.

As an M&S Bakery Assistant you might be working as part of a small team – but you’ll be just as happy to work alone. Above all, you’ll need a deep passion for working in a bakery environment. Alongside that, you’ll need to have a good awareness and knowledge of baking coupled with great customer service and team working skills. Some experience working with breads, pastries and other bakery products is essential.
About the application process
Before anything else, you’ll need to complete an online assessment. This will involve a bakery based knowledge test as well as a customer service based situational judgement questionnaire.
If you’re successful, you’ll take part in a face-to face assessment made up of a further bakery based knowledge test, interview and role play with a Line Manager.
