Police were called after a man in his 40s was punched in the face and had his Whyte T-130 bike stolen in Mill Lane, Northfield, at around 7.40am yesterday (6 February).

The incident happened as the man was on his way to work.

The two offenders, thought to be in their late teens or early 20s, had their faces covered and were on bikes.

It’s believed they followed the victim from Northfield high street, down Quarry Lane and then right on to the Rea Valley Cycle Route at Mill Lane.

The assaulted cyclist explained that as he slowed down for a moment they “punched my face until I lost balance and came off the bike. They then kept hitting me to get me to let go of the bike”.

The youths left a white Carrera bike behind following the attack – unconfirmed that the bikes the youths were on were those stolen from garden shed hours earlier on Frankley Beeches Road, Northfield.
