Tesco have confirmed that their Weoley Castle Esso Express store and petrol station – which was devastated by fire this summer – will NOT be reopening.

Six West Midlands Fire Service crews battled the blaze at the store in Barnes Hill in the early hours of Tuesday 16th July.

The fire was brought under control within a few hours but crews remained on site dealing with hot spots in the wall panels for three days.

Responding to a question from a customer on Twitter, the Tesco account tweeted: “Following a full review of the store and the recent fire there, we have taken the difficult decision not to reopen our Weoley Esso Express. Our priority now is supporting our colleagues, and finding other roles for them at Tesco wherever that’s possible.”

A second tweet read: “We would like to thank all our customers who have shopped there. We hope to continue serving them through our other local stores […]”.
