UPDATE: 10.50am Thursday 24th October: West Midlands Ambulance Service have confirmed that an elderly pedestrian has sadly died after being involved in an accident with a lorry in Cotteridge yesterday evening (Wednesday 23rd October). 

All emergency services attended to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and an HGV on Pershore Road in Cotteridge at 6.50pm yesterday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Upon arrival crews found an elderly woman who had been involving in a collision with an HGV and was in a critical condition.

“Ambulance staff worked as a team to deliver advanced trauma care to the woman before she was transferred by land ambulance on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further emergency treatment.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead a short time later in hospital.”

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the West Midlands Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“The woman’s family are being supported by specialist officers and are thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”

A woman – believed to be in her 70s – is in a critical condition in hospital after being involved in an accident with a lorry in Cotteridge this evening (Wednesday 23rd October). 

The accident happened just before 7pm when the pedestrian was in collision with a heavy goods vehicle on Pershore Road close to Kwik Fit.

The road remains closed in both directions while collision investigators examine the scene. The driver of the HGV is assisting officers with their enquiries.

West Midlands Police are appealing for anyone who saw the accident – or who may have dashcam footage – to contact them via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight or call 101 anytime.
