FREE adult daysaver tickets for Clean Air Day (20 June)

National Express West Midlands are celebrating national Clean Air Day by giving away a free adult bus Daysaver.

The bus operator is calling on the people of the West Midlands and Coventry to leave their car at home on 20 June 2019 and – where possible – to travel by bus, to help make the air cleaner and healthier for everyone.

  • National Express West Midlands’ Clean Air Day free ticket will be available from 0900 on Wednesday 19 June to 2359 on Thursday 20 June 2019.
  • It can be downloaded by anyone via the company’s app and is valid for seven days.
  • The Free Daysaver tickets are valid for unlimited travel for one day on any National Express West Midlands or National Express Coventry service.

Nick Vane, Commercial Director of National Express West Midlands, said: “Air pollution is a real problem in our cities. It’s affecting our health, and especially our children. Buses are the solution to pollution. ”

Cllr Kath Hartley, who is Chair of the West Midlands Combined Authority’s (WMCA)

Transport Delivery Committee, said: “Clean Air Day is a great opportunity for us all to get involved in making the air cleaner and healthier.

“The WMCA and Transport for West Midlands are working hard to make it easier for people to leave their cars at home. This includes helping operators to upgrade bus fleets to the latest ultra-clean engine standards, expanding our tram and rail networks, and introducing new cycling and walking initiatives.

“As well as improving the quality of the air we breathe, fewer car journeys will reduce traffic congestion, which already costs this region £2bn each year.”

Councillor Waseem Zaffar, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Birmingham City Council, said:

“Poor air quality is a major public health crisis and if we want to be serious about tackling it, then we need to think carefully about the way we travel around our city, including leaving the car at home and using public transport instead.

“I am pleased that National Express is once again offering this free bus Daysaver ticket for Clean Air Day and hope that as many people as possible will take advantage of this opportunity. More people on buses means fewer people in cars, which means less congestion and improved air quality.

“I myself am a regular bus user and I would urge anyone who currently uses their car, particularly for shorter trips, to consider whether they could actually make those journeys by bus instead, not just on Clean Air Day but in the long-term too.”

National Express West Midlands vehicles will be fully compliant with Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone when it starts next year. The bus company has spent £90 million on nearly 350 brand-new vehicles which are the cleanest and greenest on the market.

They have also been fitting hundreds of their oldest buses with new exhaust systems that make the air coming out of the tailpipe cleaner than the air that went in.

Please remember, the Clean Air Day campaign is not just for one day of the year. You can Sign up our newsletter to keep up to date with the progress they’re making, what others are up to – and be the first to hear about plans for 2019.

  1. Why is this closed now. I have the app and was not aware of this and now I cannot get a free ticket. I travel on these buses every day.
