A man who sadly died at a Northfield church yesterday has been named by the church rector.
Well known local man Andy Carr – bellringer, former firefighter and Community First Responder – tragically passed away at St Laurence Church yesterday afternoon.
Despite CPR being carried out by a member of the public, he was pronounced dead by attending West Midlands Ambulance Service staff. West Midlands Police confirm the death is NOT being treated as suspicious.
Announcing his death, Rev’d Canon Janet Chapman paid tribute to Andy, a much respected man in the church – and wider – community.
She wrote: “It is with great regret that we announce the tragic death of Andy Carr, in St Laurence church, yesterday (Monday 28th January 2019.)
“We give thanks for his 50 years of service to the church as a bell-ringer, and more recently as Tower Captain and teacher of ringing.
“Andy has also given many years of service to the community including as a fire-fighter (Redditch – Blue Watch), as a hospital porter and as a volunteer First Responder.
“His death is not being treated as suspicious and funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
“We are offering prayer and support to his family; please respect their privacy at this deeply sad time.
“Church is normally open 8-8.30am and 5-5.30 Monday-Friday for Morning and Evening Prayer; it can be entered quietly for private prayer at this time too.
“May Andy Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory. Amen”
Canon Janet said that she and the church office would only be able to respond to the most urgent of enquiries at present. updates regarding funeral arrangements etc will be posted on the church’s social media and B31 Voices.
