The well known High street bakery Greggs will now have a ‘vegan’ option to their best selling meat filled sausage roll.
The Vegan diet has been going through a recent popularity growth, with more and more people choosing to embrace alternatives to meat products.
The new snack, which will cost £1, will be launched tomorrow (3rd January) to coincide with Veganuary, is 100% free of animal products, the sausage filling is replaced with Quorn – and wrapped in 96 layers of puff pastry.

The decision came to introduce the tasty looking morsel following a petition by animal welfare organisation PETA which was launched last year calling on Greggs to produce a vegan version of the product – the petition was signed by more than 20,000 people.
The chief executive of Greggs said: “Like many food retailers we have seen increasing demand for vegetarian and vegan products,”
“We have been trying to develop a Vegan version of our famous sausage roll for some time now. It has not been easy but our taste panel customers all love this one, so we have decided to launch it as our contribution to Veganuary.”
