A dog was sadly put down by police firearms officers in Rednal in the early hours of this morning after it attacked a woman.

West Midlands Police confirmed that they were called by West Midlands Ambulance Service to reports that a dog had attacked a woman at a home in Rise Avenue.

A woman, 38, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Local residents described hearing a dog barking and gun shots.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that the dog was euthanised by officers. She said: “Officers attended the address and due to the circumstances they were faced with had no choice but to put the dog down.”

She confirmed that the owner of the dog is assisting police with their enquiries.
