Today marks 18 years since the last original Mini was driven off the Longbridge production line on 4th October 2000.
Celebrities, the world’s press, workers and Mini enthusiasts – with a mixture of sadness and pride – gathered at MG Rover’s Lowhill Lane factory to witness the last iconic car leave.
After 41 years of production of the much-loved British classic at Longbridge, the 5,387,862nd and final Mini – a red Mini Cooper – was ‘driven’ out by singer Lulu to the theme of The Italian Job.
The BMW Mini went on to be produced at Cowley in Oxford.
