A local man has been arrested today (24th October) by West Midlands Police detectives investigating the assault of a pensioner in Balsall Heath last week.

A video was shared on social media of the incident in which a man in his seventies was followed off a bus and knocked to the ground last Tuesday (16th October), suffering cuts to his nose and elbows.

A 43 year old man from Longbridge was arrested this morning on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Jim Church said: “We have received an overwhelming response from the public which has helped us to make this arrest.

“Enquiries are continuing and we would urge anyone with information which may assist us to come forward.”
