A local West Midlands Police Sergeant has offered reassurance to the community as officers investigating a stabbing in Kitwell on Monday (1st October) confirm a teenager has been arrested.
The 15 year old was arrested last night (Tuesday 2nd October) on suspicion of assault after a 25 year old man was stabbed in Balmoral Road on Monday evening. The man suffered serious injuries but has since been discharged from hospital.
Members of the community expressed concern after the stabbing and separate reports of robberies on Monday prompted Bartley Green School to advise pupils not to walk to or from school through Woodgate Valley Country Park and to “avoid going out in the evening”, especially alone. There was also an increased police presence for reassurance at school times.
Sgt David Cotter, from the Bartley Green Neighbourhood Team, said:
“We are aware of a number of incidents that have worried local residents including robberies and attempted robberies all taking place in the same area, on Monday this week.
“I share the concern, but can confirm that we are happy with the progress being made in relation to our investigations.
“I am confident that we will have positive leads into our enquiries in coming days and will be speaking to a number of people who we think may have information.
“From a neighbourhood point of view, we are actively supporting local schools and have increased patrols at school opening and closing times.”
Enquiries are ongoing into the incidents and anyone with information is urged to contact West Midlands Police by calling 101 anytime or via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight.
