A local Zumba instructor has raised over £1000 for Acorns Children’s Hospice by hosting her third charity Zumbathon.
18 year old Ellie Hooper, an administrator from Rubery, had already raised over £300 with two previous Zumbathons: in support of Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer and pioneering treatment for MS for Emma Debar.
A Zumba fan since the age of 11, Ellie has been leading her own classes for two and a half years.
The event at Urban Fitness @ Bournville College was organised by Ellie. 60 people took part in two full hours of Zumba, led by Ellie and fellow instructors Matt Raybone and Gary Woodhall.
A prize raffle was also held to raise extra funds, with prizes donated by local businesses.
Ellie said: “I just wanted to raise money for a great cause in a fun way that also was a health initiative and Acorns seemed the perfect charity. [It was] an amazing day and Zumbathon, with great support from the community and surrounding areas. ”
The event exceeded its £1000 target, with £1095 raised!
Ellie thanked all those who supported her event. She said: “Many thanks to Urban Fitness at Bournville College for the hall and all their help. Also to all of the local businesses who contributed: – Rubery Leisure Centre for the stage, Behan Butchers, Slimming World with Paula, Frankie and Benny’s, Amy’s florist, Farmfoods, AV active, Mobile beauty by Lisa, Rafters Cafe, Costa, Empire Cinema, Cadbury World, Hollywood Bowl, CC Balloons and Janet for the name the bear.”
Ellie hopes to hold another Zumbathon early next year and we’re sure it will once again be a success!
Well done, Ellie and all involved!
If you can’t wait til next year to get your Zumba on, Ellie holds weekly classes at Lickey End Social Club (Mondays), Urban Fitness @ Bournville College in Longbridge (Wednesdays) and Beacon Church Centre in Rubery (Thursdays).
