Officers were called to an allotment in Pereira Road in Harborne after receiving a report that the remnants of a possible WW2 bomb had been found.

Shocked gardeners immediately alerted  West Midlands Police just before 2:30pm this afternoon (20th August). The popular allotment – which is more accustomed to potatoes and runner beans than weapons of destruction – had to close as did surrounding roads whilst officers investigated.

It was later confirmed that the discovery was in fact pieces of an exploded World War Two bomb and there was no threat to members of the public.
