West Midlands Police have confirmed that fire crews investigating reports of a “smell of burning” in a Longbridge tower block this afternoon (Tuesday 6th March), discovered a ‘cannabis farm’ in one of the flats.

West Midlands Fire Service attended after reports of a smell of burning on the 3rd and 4th floors of Carisbrooke House in Culmington Road.

On investigation, it was discovered that electrics had been damaged by flooding and crews worked with electricians from Birmingham City Council to make the building safe for residents.

Local residents in and around the block have been without power while the work continues. Western Power Distribution expect power to be restored by 7.30pm

West Midlands Police confirmed that they were alerted to the scene at around 1pm by the fire service.

A spokesman said: “The force were alerted by the fire service, who discovered a cannabis set-up inside one of the flats.

“Seventy plants have been seized and an investigation is on-going.”
