A Rubery woman’s business received a boost when she met former Dragon’s Den panelist Theo Paphitis at an event for winners of his Small Business Sunday award.
In March last year, Yvonne Donald’s business, Kake and Cupkakery, was chosen by Theo as a winner of the Twitter based initiative which boosts small businesses.
Yvonne makes stunning artisan cupcakes, celebration cakes and wedding cakes.
Since 2010, 329,000 businesses have entered Small Business Sunday (#SBS) and 2256 have won.
Yvonne said: “I had been trying to attract Theo’s attention for a couple years via his #SBS initiative, but I could not make an impact, so I had a break and continued working on my business. After a hiatus of entering, I tweeted Theo and in my first attempt at retrying, I won.”
Last month, Yvonne was invited along with other winners to meet the leading businessman at an event at the ICC.
The event was a full day of networking, talks, presentations and a fireside chat between Theo and John Roberts, the founder of ao.com
Attendees also met Theo and received Small Business Sunday certificates.
Yvonne said: “He is a huge supporter of small business and I’m proud that another Birmingham/West Midlands business is part of the #SBS community.”
