Man with neck injury cut from car as three flee scene of Rednal crash

A man is in hospital this morning with a serious neck injury after being cut from his car following a collision in Rednal yesterday evening (Monday 27th November).

West Midlands Police are seeking the driver and passengers of a second vehicle, who all ran from the scene.

The 60 year old local man had just popped out to shops in Edgewood Road for milk and was heading home, when the collision happened at the top of Ryde Park Road, just after 6pm.

Cut free – neck injury

The man complained of neck pain and was given pain relief while fire service crews from Northfield and Kings Norton worked with ambulance crews to cut the man free from his car.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirm that two ambulances attended and that the man was immobilised and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further assessment. Family members report that he remains immobilised in hospital today due to a neck fracture and we wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Fled scene

Several occupants from the other vehicle fled from the scene on foot and are being sought by West Midlands Police.

A police spokeswoman said: “It is reported that up to three men ran away from the scene and left a red car abandoned in the road, which was removed soon after.”

Anyone who witnessed the accident or who has any information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log 1853 of 27 November. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or visit
