Police are investigating after receiving a report that a firework had been thrown into a National Express West Midlands bus.

The incident happened at 9:50, Bonfire night (5th November) on the number 49 bus as it stoped at the bus stop on Hillmeads Road, Kings Norton (heading towards Cotteridge).

A passenger on the bus told us that she saw an individual wearing a “black scarf covering his lower face and black hoodie”, she added “I saw him aiming the firework”. The passenger believes someone else had opened the emergency exit from the outside.

Thankfully the bus was evacuated and no injuries were sustained by the passengers or driver.

A spokesperson for National Express West Midlands said: “There was an incident involving a firework on a National Express West Midlands number 49 bus”, adding “We are working closely with West Midlands Police to help them in their investigations”.
