As refuse collectors continue to work to catch up with a backlog of waste caused by industrial action, Birmingham City Council have announced that weekly refuse collections – and fortnightly recycling collections – will recommence from next Monday (9th October).

In a statement on their website, BCC say:

From Monday 9 Oct, our bin crews will be returning to weekly collections.

  • Please continue to separate your waste, household rubbish in the grey lid bin and recycling in the blue lid bin.

  • Remember recycling and garden collections are undertaken fortnightly, so if they are not collected during week beginning 9 Oct then they will be collected the following week

  • Garden waste – please leave your garden waste out on your normal collection day.

In case you’ve forgotten when your normal collection should be (it’s been a while!) you can check online.

Industrial action by Unite union members is currently on hold awaiting a court hearing into whether Birmingham City Council acted illegally in issuing redundancy notices to workers as they downgraded an existing role.

  1. Any collection would be good! Had none for 3weeks!!!! Seen the truck come into our oval & go without our rubbish… it’s nice to know my council tax money is well spent with rubbish pilling up outside my door & oval/street! B45 area.
