Bartley Green’s Reach Out project is set to benefit from a street based youth worker who will help 11-19 year olds with an activity programme over the summer holiday period.
The position has been created thanks to a grant secured from the Big Lottery Fund by Youth Work Europe and Newman University, who are behind the project. The activities will take place at the University’s Health and Wellbeing Centre and will focus on young people’s involvement in local decision making and looking at how their presence in public spaces is restricted by crime and conflict measures.
Pete Harris, senior lecturer at the University, said “The lottery grant has enabled us to get this project up and running and having an additional youth worker will make a big difference.
“We hope to develop this project over the next three years and we will need to find other sources of income to ensure its sustainability”.
