An Easter Fun Run organised by the charity Headway Birmingham & Solihull on Sunday (9 April) attracted its highest number of entrants yet on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far.

The event, sponsored by the financial investment group Frenkel Topping for a second year, took place in Cofton Park and was organised to raise funds for Headway’s brain injury services in the local area. Over 100 people walked or ran the 5k route, travelling from Solihull, Redditch, Bromsgrove and across Birmingham to take part.

Julie Wedgbury, Fundraising Manager at Headway Birmingham & Solihull, said: “There was a great atmosphere on Sunday, no doubt helped by the sunny weather. Cofton Park is hilly anyway but proved more of a challenge in the heat, especially for the local policing team from Longbridge who ran in full uniform!”

She thanked everyone who supported the run, including local branches of Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose who donated chocolate Easter eggs, and Morrisons at Rubery who provided bottled water and giant Easter eggs as prizes. These were presented by Julie Cattel from Frenkel Topping to Clive Rose, first male finisher, and to Zoe Tinnion, first female to cross the line. Helen Barney, who took therapy dog Foofy out for her first 5k run, was awarded the prize for best Easter-themed costume.

The Easter Fun Run is expected to have raised over £1,200 which will be put towards Headway’s specialist brain injury services.
