Three armed robbery suspects were arrested in Northfield in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday 14th March).

Earlier in previous evening, men armed with an axe had attempted to raid two stores in Sutton Coldfield. In both cases, staff were grabbed & threatened but the would-be thieves fled empty handed.

A West Midlands Police firearms unit spotted the suspected getaway car – a Ford KA – in Fourlands Road at around 1am.

Police intercepted the car and three Birmingham men, aged 23, 26 and 37, were arrested.

The men will also be questioned about another shop robbery – in Ward End on Saturday morning – where a man armed with a knife made off with till contents.

West Midlands Police Detective Sergeant Phil Poole, said: “Thankfully no-one was injured in the attacks but staff members were understandably shaken up at being threatened with a weapon.

“All three men are currently being held in police custody for questioning. If anyone witnessed the robberies, or has any information on who may be responsible, I’d urge them to call my team at Stechford police station as soon as possible on the 101 number.”
