The charity Headway Birmingham & Solihull is holding its second Easter Fun Run in April and already has a number of participants signed up, including some local police officers who plan to run in full uniform!
The event will take place in Cofton Park on Sunday April 9, a 5k route suitable for all abilities to run, jog or walk. Entrants will receive a chocolate Easter egg and a unique Easter-themed medal on completing the run, which loops through the park along paved pathways, grassland and woodland paths.
The charity held its first Easter Fun Run last year, raising over £1,500 towards its specialist brain injury services and greater awareness of the work of Headway throughout the local area.
Julie Wedgbury, Fundraising Manager at Headway Birmingham & Solihull, said: “Our Fun Run is all about getting out there, enjoying the great outdoors and raising a few pounds for a fantastic cause as you do so. The feedback we had from our first event was really positive and we’re pleased to be welcoming back some of last year’s participants for a second time.
“We also have some officers from the local policing team in Longbridge taking part – and if they can run it in uniform, really anyone can do it!”
She urged people to sign up quickly as places are strictly limited.
Sgt Lee Howard from Longbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team added: “This promises to be a fun event for a really worthwhile charity, and we’re looking forward to being part of it. It’s a great opportunity for us to get out and meet members of our local community. Some of us will be running in full uniform, hopefully alongside others in Easter costume!”
Fancy dress is optional but prizes will be awarded for the best Easter costume as well as to the first male and female entrants over the line. The Fun Run is an ideal first event following the Couch to 5k programme, for Parkrun enthusiasts and for anyone loving chocolate or medal ‘bling’!
Entry is £10 in advance, or £12 on the day if there are still places available, with all proceeds going locally to Headway Birmingham & Solihull.
Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
