Powerlifters from a gym in Kings Norton are celebrating after picking up a four medal haul at the Global Powerlifting Committee Great Britain finals in Manchester at the weekend.
Louis Higgins set the bar high with a gold medal in the M1 Under 67.5kg category, smashing his own British record for the squat (190kg) and deadlift (240kg) along the way.
Julie Davis, fresh from winning gold at the World Championships in Serbia in September, picked up another gold medal to add to her collection in the M1 Under 60kg category, along with a Best Lifter Award for her total of 340kg.
And Harley Wells recorded three personal bests on his way to scoop silver in the Junior Under 82.5kg category with a 230kg squat, 150kg bench press and 220kg deadlift.
All three are coached by the owner of Gladiator 100 Primal Training and Gladiator Barbell Paul Smith, who himself picked up a bronze medal in the M1 Under 100kg category with his best competition total of 605kg.
Paul said “I feel as proud as parent after the weekend’s results! We are a team here at Gladiator Barbell and we all support each other in our goals. It’s a close knit gym with a raw and personal touch. We can tap in to your strength; strong is there for the taking. The power lifting community is very supportive and I personally take pride in my members getting strong.”
