Melvin James Cain, aged 63, of Taysfield Road, Northfield was charged on 8th January 2016 with two counts of sexual assault of a child under the age of 13.
The Grandfather of nine pleaded not guilty to the two counts of sexual assault of his victim who was 2-3 at the time. However, on Monday 11th of April, a jury at Birmingham Crown Court found Mr Cain guilty and he was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
A relative of Mr Cain told us “I thought the world of him, never thought he could do something like that, he’s destroyed me, totally ripped me apart”
In conjunction with the 14 year prison term, Mr Cain was also sentenced with a Restraining Order, A Sexual Harm Prevention Order and he will be spend the remainder of his life on the Sex Offenders Register.
