Culmington Hall in Longbridge has been close to Carla Campbell’s heart since birth, as her mum has voluntarily run the hall for 30 years.

So, the 30 year old mum of three and childminder from Longbridge, is running her first half marathon in Stratford-upon-Avon next weekend to help support the centre.

Heart of the community

The volunteer run community centre, in Culmington Road just off Central Avenue, is a registered charity and supports local residents of all ages – with playgroups, childminder support groups, over 50’s group, dancing, kickboxing, children’s parties and more. It is also a local polling station and stands at the heart of the community it serves.

Running costs

However, with ancient electric heaters being the only source of warmth, the centre has a huge electricity bill and is struggling to keep up with its running costs.

Carla grew up in and around Culmington Hall as, for the last 30 years, the centre has been voluntarily run by her inspirational mum, Wanda Collins!

Childminder Wanda has dedicated enormous amounts of her time to Culmington Hall – while working full time, raising a family of four and overseeing 11 grandchildren.

Inspiration

Carla has been training hard to meet the challenge of her first half marathon, and it’s clear where her inspiration and determination comes from!

She said: “Many nights I have known mom to be still mopping the floors, cleaning and tidying up after a party or function at gone midnight, so that it was ready for the next group to use the next morning. This hard work and commitment has helped members of the community out for all these years, so many people in the local and wider community have relied on this venue at some point.

“Mom gives so much support and time to local residents and users of the community centre, she always has other people’s interests at heart, putting everyone before herself.  So please sponsor me to help an inspirational woman help the community further and raise money to pay the heating bills and make essential improvements to keep the centre open.”

Good luck, Carla!
