Officers were called to a house address on Redhill Road, Hawkesley at around 10:20pm following reports of a man with gunshot wounds.
A 21-year-old man was taken to hospital with two gunshot wounds, to his leg and chest, where his condition today is described as stable.
At this stage, police believe that the shooting was a targeted attack and have reassured that they do not believe there is a threat to the wider community.
Detective Chief Inspector Sean Russell said: “We’re very keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything last night that may help with our investigation.
“There may be people out there who feel uneasy about coming forward. I would reassure those individuals we have a range of special measures that we can use to support them. Firearms have no place on the streets of Birmingham. There must be no let-up in our approach to tackle gun crime and it remains an absolute priority for us.”
Anyone who can assist the police investigation should call 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
