UPDATE: A third ram raid took place earlier this week (Mon 18th Jan 2016) Read more

West Midlands Police have today released CCTV footage (see below) of two ram raid robberies in Frankley in November and December.

The raids came just weeks apart and involved two separate stores in Arden Road.

IMG_0565The Heritage Supermarket was first to be hit, at around 11.15pm on Sunday 1st November 2015. Thieves stole a large amount of cash and cigarettes after smashing through the front shutters of the shop with a stolen blue flatbed Ford Transit Tipper.

The second robbery took place just before 3am on Wednesday 9th December, when thieves targeted Martin’s Newsagents. A stolen white Ford Transit Tipper was reversed through the shop’s shutters before the offenders tried (and failed) to remove a free standing cash machine.

On this occasion, CCTV images showed that the Transit was closely followed by three other vehicles – a blue Ford Focus, a grey Mondeo and an off-road scooter. Police are asking anyone who saw these vehicles before, or after the raid, to get in contact.

Two men have been interviewed voluntarily and continue to help police with their investigation, which is ongoing.

Detective Constable Michelle Beasley said: “I am asking anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in these areas around the time of the incidents, or who may have any information, to please get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call Det Con Beasley at Bournville CID on 101. Alternatively contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

  1. I work in this row of shops, and its really upsetting that this has happened.these shops are part of the community and would be a sad loss if they were to close,Yes its not a great area however there is a small minority that are ruining this area not everybody.People blame others off the estate but it might not be folk off the estate,We who work here have to pick up the pieces and try and keep things going so the community still have access to what they need,
